March ’26

In March, I thought I wanted to start a new monthly letter project, that desire lasted … about a week. However, I have since picked up the pen again, (metaphorically), and resumed writing, feeling the need to try again. So here is something from my past self to you, with a new piece to follow soon.

Hello Friends!

March has been a funny old month. We’ve hit that time of the year when suddenly the weeks no longer feel distinct. Time begins to run together, and with it, the humdrum of the same day-in-day-out week seeps in. Consequently, I’ve been complaining of feeling stagnant and uninspired. Contrarily, I’ve been actively building in more layers of control and consistency into my weeks. Perhaps it has no bearing, but such conflicting desires have made for quite the emotional rollercoaster.

On the whole, I would say I am happy and content 70% of the time, YET the other 30% can be so emotional, so big, it often feels like my more consistent state. It doesn’t help in the slightest that I seem to have a headache every second day.

But Monday onwards, I have been feeling the glimmer of INSPIRATION! I stumbled across an Instagram post by the artist Katie Mai and immediately I was taken by her illustration style. This led me to her latest vlog highlighting her mail club – an idea, you may remember, I attempted myself in the early days of Friend of Note. Her execution of this concept was the best I had seen so far and reignited the desire to create such material. Hence this letter! 

Considering I’ve been feeling so uninspired, the idea of a monthly letter to hype myself up, to motivate and excite me, to capture the essence of the felt creations I’ve SLOWLY been working on, is quite an invigorating thought. However, as to what to talk about… well that idea is yet to strike, SO, we will keep the ‘real’ writing for next month. Until then I will enjoy the process of designing the decorative elements of this letter – it’s been quite some time since I picked up my iPad to draw. The border is inspired by the felt horse I have been working on the last month – one I hope to have finished by the end of the month.
